Organised beaches

Organised beaches are controlled by the town, the Mayors office, they give out concessions to vendors to provide services life cafés, bar, food, sun bed and umbrella rentals, and lifeguards they also provide showers and sanitary facilities.

Most organised beaches will also have rubbish and sand cleaning facilities.

Most organised beaches are in positions where the beaches are mainly sand and the entrance to the sea is easy.

For all this you pay an entrance fee for the day and can stay for the whole day.

Private beaches

Private beaches are areas of the coast owned by companies, usually a restaurant or hotel, they provide amenities that can range from a masseuse, beach side waiter service, pools, amusement parks, water sport equipment hire, first aid centre, towels and more.

Some of the smaller less extravagant beaches that belong to restaurants seam to have a ‘sun up to sun down’ policy for using the beach, this is because they want their evening dinners to have a perfect view of the beach as they eat rather than that of people.

Most private beaches are in positions where the beaches are mainly sand and the entrance to the sea is easy, the standard of the area is solely the responsibility of the private concern and all services provided totally under their control.

For this you pay and entrance fee and often you get a free drink as well.

Free beaches

These can be so varied ranging from rock, boulders, stones and san shore lines, there is a lot of stretches of cliffs where the stretch of beach is only a meter (couple of feet) wide, their may be municipal bins at the entrance and if you are lucky, the locals may have added a fresh water shower or pipe for rinsing.

These beaches are not controlled in anyway, and there are a lot of them, some are difficult to get to, you have to trek down and through wilderness, some have small restaurants (tavernas) opportunistically attached, and some are large stretches of beach seemingly undiscovered.

These beaches are often at the end of fields and whilst the owner keeps the land as arable, these beaches are available to the public at their own risk.

There are a lot of these stretches with maybe one farmer providing a basic services like convince food and water at one end, these beaches rely on the people using them to keep them clean, most of them are used by locals and they do not tell the tourists about them.

With private and organised beaches you have people and organisations in charge and with some responsibility for the services they provide but with free beaches you are totally responsible for your actions.
