Sightseeing
Athens Has Museums, lots and lots of museums, some are provided by the state, especially where the building and grounds are included, but most are private and provided by the public.
There are the Archaeological sites, these are places they have uncovered for various reasons, the older ones because someone wanted to prove that the history books were right, but many of the new ones are uncovered because of new building works, especially during the preparation for the 2004 Olympics.
There are many unregistered sites that are sandwiched between houses, all over Greece, there are many buildings that actually have their foundation stones from the original buildings, but what I have found is that they mix old with new, and even preserve the old and suspend the new above it, like in Platia Kotzia Kratinoy, where they have a hotel suspended over the preserved ruins.
When it comes to reconstruction of the original ruins, the buildings on to of the ‘Holey Rock’ or Acropolis, they will go into great detail and even use the original rock quarry to get the stone.

This means that you get hotels, you get tours and you have lots to do.
This also means that you can arrange your schedule to suit yourself.
As this country is free from Health & Safety regulations, free from many of the controls that some governments feel is important to control the social society, you can do a lot, but this means you take responsibility for your own actions.

Holidays should satisfy your needs to relax and there is a lot here that is aimed at relaxed free time.
The coffee may be expensive, but they spend up to 3 hours sitting at a table drinking one coffee socialising here, so taking a coffee is not done Italian style.
But if you want a quick coffee, there is Starbucks, and other places that will give it to you in a paper cup, or deliver a coffee to you.
In fact, delivery and service is high on the things here, there is no DIY, it is how they keep the economy going and the money moving.

Shopping and I mean SHOPPING is a national past time.
They will travel and spend money to get to the shops that are doing the bargains, in fact they may spend more on the transport than they will save, but the shops also deliver and gift wrap your purchases if they are presents, no extra charge.
They are always giving gifts on special days, name days more than birthdays, baptisims and weddings, so a lot of the shops in any area are aimed at gifts.
They have a fantastic Fashion industry, this means they are cut your throat prices for a 1 in 10 dress, they have bag shops, belt shops, accessories, beauty shops for products that only make you beautiful.
I mean these shops only sell on thing, so you are sure to find the perfect thing in one of them.
You have the Beach and Mountains, you can go mad with how much there is to do, diving, swimming and all water sports, all the sports you can do with Mountains and as for Cars, see my 4 X 4 article.
Whilst you are doing all this open your eyes to what is around you, you have just passed a building that has been there for 3,000 years.
It is more hidden than Rome, but I have found it a little bit easier to live with.
