Party Favours
When we talk about party favours, we think of what we got as children when we went to a friends birthday, a bag of sweets with a small toy included to take home as a memento of the event
Now a days these bags may contain a sex toy or our choice of lingerie after a Hen Night
Or a photo frame with the couples names and wedding date engraved on it after a wedding, similar for a baptism
What I am talking about is doing it the Greek way
Boubonyerias
|
These are traditionally little packets of sweets, the courfeta (Sugared Almonds, representing the sweet plenty that the union of this couple will produce) that a beautifully wrapped, or other sweets, maybe small cakes, with some small piece of art attached as a gift / reminder of the event that they give to all the guests
In the old days, the wedding would last a few days, this was traditionally because one family had to travel a distance to attend and they stayed a while before they returned
During this time the guests would be wined and dined, their would always be sweet nibbles available, the wider the range of sweet nibbles available would show the largess of the hosts
In the regions where getting hold of expensive, fine material to wrap up the courfeta for the boubonyerias was difficult to get, other ways were found
This led to an imaginative industry of boxes, containers, art and design of gargantuan proportions
All of it is here waiting for you to use

Shells, woods, stones, boxes, bags, purses, hats, figurines and balloons are just a few in one shop down stairs
Filled with courfeta if you want to go traditional, jelly beans, smarties, chocolate in the winter, other sweets of choice or mix it up if you want to go origional
Little mementoes on ribbons, like a hart key key ring, the evil eye protection, dried flowers in wax, leather pressed key ring with the initials of the couple or yours, with the event date
But for the international market I have asked if they would add different things for Hen Nights, Stag Nights, Anniversaries, Graduations and Birthdays, they said ‘why not’
You can take the Gift idea into the equation and add art and a craft idea
Take a glass you will use for the toast, add filigree design or a climbing silver vine crafted up the glass with semi precious stones, you give everyone a glass at the dinner for the toasts with the option that they can buy themselves a set to take home
Or the finger bowls with their dinner, if it is a buffet with named seating, it is an original idea
You can have welcome baskets on arrival placed in your guests’ rooms, essentials that they will need like a mosquito repellent, wet wipes, antihistamines and pain killers, here we can go further and add flowers
You can have an invitation to the welcome party on a card, with a corsage for the women and a button hole for the man, suspended from a balloon, hanging over the bed in their room on arrival
Do not forget the local sweets, nuts and other delicacies you can utilise as presentation packages for them to take home, in the right box that they can keep it is another memento of the Event
